Trump said Saturday it was time for Ukraine to get a new president, suggesting Zelenskyy has not done enough to end the war and blaming him for high diesel prices in the U.S.
"I suggest they get a new leader who can make a deal because he could have made many deals and for some reason he never does," Trump said.
The U.S. president, who on Friday struck a deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin to buy diesel from Russia in an attempt to address high fuel prices ahead of the U.S. midterm elections, has been urging Zelenskyy for weeks to stop strikes on Russian energy infrastructure.
He has sought to blame record U.S. diesel prices on Ukraine rather than the U.S.-led war in Iran, which has driven up world energy prices. Ukrainian and European officials reacted to the diesel deal with dismay, saying it will help pay for Russia's war effort.
The Staff: Trump has caused all the this and now wants to blame the president of Ukraine for high fuel prices. He needs to try to understand how wars are fought. Almost forgot, he is a political person and has zero idea how to fight or wain a war he started. Many generals have spoken about how once started it should have be finished and not ceased. His time in office is short and republicans will most likely not control the house after November election. Trump and his idea of being an effective leader has caused this. Now he makes a deal with Putin for fuel and that is disgusting to many Americans.

The deal follows talks between Russian and US officials, including Jared Kushner, that reports suggest ended with an agreement for the US to take a cut in future gas exports to Europe from Russia when the war ends.
The diesel decision has prompted criticism more widely. Andy Burnham reiterated his "complete solidarity" with Ukraine in a call with Mr Zelensky on Friday. The pair are due to meet this week.
