Governments and private companies are ramping up efforts to create “vaccine passports”that could potentially give a big boost to reopening air travel and businesses around the world.
But critics are concerned that vaccine passports will lead to privacy violations and discrimination. For example, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, is dismissive of the idea and has said he will take action against it.
A vaccine passport would be a smartphone app that would confirm if someone had received a COVID-19 vaccine or had tested negative for the coronavirus. Many businesses, such as airlines, bars, and sport and music venues, are considering requiring them for entry.
The nation of Israel already issues a “green passport” to citizens who have been fully vaccinated. It grants them access to venues such as restaurants and theaters. The European Union is considering something similar, called a Digital Green Certificate.
Critics have noted that since most vaccine passports will come in the form of smartphone apps, people’s private health information will be at risk of exposure. The reason is that the smartphone apps will have to link to databases that contain the relevant vaccine or testing information.
“These systems need some degree of access to sensitive health information in order to function, and that creates an unavoidable vulnerability,” J.D. Tuccille of Reason magazine noted.
New York’s Excelsior Pass has come under heavy criticism for not being specific about how it protects data.
"I have more detailed technical documentation about the privacy impact of nearly every app on my phone than I do for this health pass," Albert Fox Cahn, an attorney and founder of the privacy rights group Surveillance Technology Oversight Project, recently told the website the Gothamist. “IBM and the governor are ... not explaining the security, implementation. And on top of it, the pass itself is incredibly revealing, disclosing not only people's health status and name but their date of birth.”
He also noted that the terms of service documents for the Excelsior Pass did not expressly say that the information wouldn’t be accessible to police departments or other government agencies.
Other critics contend that vaccine passports will be discriminatory.
Many people around the world do not have access to smartphones, including an estimated 1 in 5 people in the United States. Supporters say that those without smartphones will be able to print out their passports.
Liberty, the United Kingdom’s largest civil liberties organization, worries that it would lead to a system that discriminates against those who are not vaccinated.
“Even the introduction of a voluntary passport to prove if you’ve had a vaccine could result in many being blocked from essential public services, work or housing,” the organization said in a statement recently. “Meanwhile once these passports have been created for one purpose – like travel – it would be all too easy for their use to be extended and abused. This would result in a two-tier system in which some people can access freedoms and support while others are shut out – with the most marginalised among us hardest hit.”
In the U.S., vaccine passports could exacerbate “health inequity,” the concern expressed by civil rights groups that systemic racism gives minorities less access to the healthcare system. Thus far, minorities are getting vaccinated at lower rates than whites. Vaccine passports raise the specter that whites would have greater access to public venues than minorities, at least temporarily.
Those who do not wish to be immunized or are unable to get a vaccine for medical reasons could be left out as well.
Concerns over freedom and privacy have led DeSantis to oppose vaccine passports.
“We’re not supportive of that. I think it’s something that people have certain freedoms and individual liberties to make decisions for themselves,” DeSantis, a Republican, said at a press conference on Monday. “It’s completely unacceptable for either the government or the private sector to impose upon you the requirement that you show proof of vaccine to just simply be able to participate in normal society.”
He also equated letting big businesses have access to a person’s health data to the fox guarding the henhouse.
DeSantis said he would be taking executive action against such passports and he would be urging the state Legislature to follow with legislative action.
The Staff: Does anyone with an education remember hearing or reading about people having to carry "Papers" so the authorities could track the citizens. Seems like I remember that happened after the citizens guns were taken in Nazi Germany. Is this the first step in allowing our government to track its citizens. Should be passport crap continue I can see Checkpoints going up on all roads at all state lines to control who can travel where just like Hitler, Stalin, and so many other dictators did. Major League Baseball officials are mulling over an option to pull this year’s All-Star Game out of Atlanta after the GOP-led Georgia legislature passed, and Republican Gov. Brian Kemp signed, a new voter ID measure aimed at avoiding balloting chaos seen in the 2020 election cycle.
According to Tony Clark, the executive director of the MLB Players Association, the league’s players are “very much aware” of the legislation, which was signed by Kemp on Thursday.
“As it relates to the All-Star Game, we have not had a conversation with the league on that issue,” Clark said in an interview with the Boston Globe. “If there is an opportunity to, we would look forward to having that conversation.”
Clark’s comments come on the heels of an op-ed published in the Los Angeles Times encouraging MLB to move the 91st All-Star Game out of Georgia in protest of the legislation, which critics claim will only serve to suppress minority voting.
“If Georgia persists in pursuing laws that will make it harder to vote, and disproportionately so in Black communities, MLB should move the 2021 All-Star game out of Atlanta,” sportswriter and columnist Bill Shaikin wrote.
“In 1990, Arizona voters rejected a proposal to make Martin Luther King Jr. Day a state holiday. The NFL responded by moving the 1993 Super Bowl from Tempe, Ariz., to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Voters later approved the holiday, and the NFL awarded the 1996 Super Bowl to Phoenix,” he noted further.
“In 2016, after North Carolina adopted a law that directed transgender individuals to use the bathroom corresponding to the gender on their birth certificate, the NBA branded the law as discriminatory. The league moved its 2017 All-Star game from Charlotte to New Orleans. The law later was repealed, and the NBA awarded its 2019 All-Star game to Charlotte,” Shaikin added.
Democrats and left-wing voter groups led by failed 2018 gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams complain that the new law restricts voting for minorities, among other things.
For her part, Abrams called the law “a redux of Jim Crow in a suit and tie.” And President Joe Biden has used similar language to rip the law, saying, “This is Jim Crow in the 21st Century.”
“This law, like so many others being pursued by Republicans in statehouses across the country, is a blatant attack on the Constitution and good conscience,” Biden added.
But Republicans counter that the law is needed to address widespread concerns about voting integrity following last fall’s election, with Kemp ripping Biden in response and accusing him of attempting to “destroy the sanctity and security of the ballot box.”
For one, Republicans noted that the law mandates that voters provide either a driver’s license or other state-issued ID in requesting and then submitting absentee ballots. It also restricts the use of unmonitored ballot drop boxes and gives the legislature more control over local election processes.
For his part, former President Trump, who heavily contested the results in Georgia, praised the measure.
“Congratulations to Georgia and the Georgia State Legislature on changing their voter Rules and Regulations,” he said in a statement issued via his Save America PAC. “They learned from the travesty of the 2020 Presidential Election, which can never be allowed to happen again. Too bad these changes could not have been done sooner!”

On Monday evening, Vice President Kamala Harris, arriving in Florida, implied that the state of Florida needed her help, tweeting, “Hey Florida! Help is Here.”
Earlier this month, Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis appeared on Fox News with Judge Jeanine Pirro. Pirro opined that the recently passed $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill rewarded Democratic-run states that had damaged their economies with strict lockdowns while punishing states like Florida, which had acted to make sure their economies stayed afloat.
DeSantis replied, “Exactly. We are getting penalized by about $2 billion because we have low unemployment, because we saved the economy, because also we have lower COVID mortality than a lot of these lockdown states. So what this bill does is say, ‘If you locked down, if you destroyed your state; if you destroyed your economy, and you failed to stop COVID as well, you’re going to get a windfall.’ Some of these lockdown states are getting an extra billion, two billion, three billion dollars, so it’s effectively a transfer of money from states like Florida and Georgia to states like New York, Illinois, and California. It stinks to high heaven.”
In February, DeSantis reacted harshly to speculation that the Biden administration might institute travel restrictions on the state of Florida. McClatchy had reported, “The Biden administration is considering whether to impose domestic travel restrictions, including on Florida, fearful that coronavirus mutations are threatening to reverse hard-fought progress on the pandemic.”
DeSantis fired: “I think it would be unconstitutional, it would be unwise, and it would be unjust,” adding that “restricting the right of Americans to travel freely throughout our country while allowing illegal aliens to pour across the southern border unmolested would be a ridiculous, but very damaging farce.”

Fox News host Tucker Carlson closed out his show "Tucker Carlson Tonight" on Wednesday, blasting Michigan's Attorney General Dana Nessel for arresting an immigrant restaurant owner, Marlena Pavlos-Hackney for coming on his show.
TUCKER: Dana Nessel is out of control. She is an ideologue, she cares only about partisan advantage. She should be impeached by the Michigan legislature for her many abuses of power. She’s that corrupt. But she’s also a bit of a dim bulb. Not a super genius. That’s why, when she was asked why she put Marlena Pavlos-Hackney in jail, Nessel actually admitted the real reason. She didn’t make up some fake legal principle.
She said straightforwardly that Marlena Pavlos-Hackney had dared to come on this show at 8:00 PM and complain about her. That’s no longer allowed. To compound the offense, Pavlos-Hackney tried to raise money for her own legal defense. That, too, is now a crime in Dana Nessel’s Michigan.
The Staff: Learning about the illegal activities of the MI attorney General it is time to get ready for a new government as MI and others states are breaking the law and no one is putting their collective feet to the fire. MORE WELFARE, LIBERALS BUYING VOTES
Evanston, Illinois, on Monday became the first U.S. city to make reparations available to its black residents for past discrimination and the lingering effects of slavery.
The Chicago suburb’s City Council voted 8-1 to distribute $400,000 to eligible black households. Each qualifying household would receive $25,000 for home repairs or down payments on property.
The program is being funded through donations and revenue from a 3% tax on the sale of recreational marijuana. The city has pledged to distribute $10 million over 10 years.
Qualifying residents must either have lived in or been a direct descendant of a black person who lived in Evanston between 1919 to 1969 and who suffered discrimination in housing because of city ordinances, policies or practices.
Alderman Rue Simmons, who proposed the program that was adopted in 2019, said pro-reparations groups have offered pro-bono legal assistance if the program is challenged in court.
“This is set aside for an injured community that happens to be black, that was injured by the city of Evanston for anti-black housing policies,” Simmons said.
The City Council acted after dozens of citizens addressed the body and the plan received some pushback from several.
Alderman Cicely Fleming, the lone vote against the plan, said she supports reparations, but what the City Council was debating is a housing plan that is being called reparations.
She said the people should dictate the terms of how their grievances are repaired.
Fleming described the program as paternalistic, and it assumes black people can’t manage their own money.
Hundreds of communities and organizations across the country are considering providing reparations to black people.
They range from the state of California to cities like Amherst, Massachusetts, Providence, Rhode Island, Asheville, North Carolina, and Iowa City, Iowa; religious denominations like the Episcopal Church; and prominent colleges like Georgetown University in Washington.
The efforts — some of which have been underway for years — have gained momentum in the wake of the Minneapolis police killing of George Floyd last May.
President Joe Biden has even expressed support for creating a federal commission to study black reparations, a proposal that’s languished for decades in Congress.
THE STAFF: Reparations is just another name for Welfare as there is no slavery and hasn't been for over 150 years. “A previously deported illegal immigrant who was a wanted man for felony charges of rape involving two young children was reportedly shot and killed by police in Texas this week,” according to Blaze News.
“Juan Jimenez-Salas, 46, was accused of repeatedly molesting the two young daughters of his Arkansas girlfriend, authorities said. The father of the girls, both under the age of 10, informed authorities in November that he suspected that Jimenez-Salas was sexually abusing the girls, who are 6 years old and 8 years old. The young sisters allegedly told their father that while traveling with their mother they were raped at a hotel room in McKinney, Texas, Captain Scott Harwell with the El Dorado Police Department in Arkansas told KDFW-TV.
“A U.S. Marshals task force got involved with the investigation of Jimenez-Salas, who was wanted on 11 felony charges, including five counts of rape and six counts of indecency with a child.
“‘Approximately 20 years ago, he was arrested on felony charges similar to that on what we have on him in this case now,’ Capt. Harwell said. ‘And he was deported back to Mexico.’…
“Local police officers in Arlington who were assigned to the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force conducted a traffic stop on Jimenez-Salas after he purportedly committed a traffic violation. Jimenez-Salas allegedly pointed a handgun at an Arlington police officer, who reacted by shooting and killing the armed man.”

With the U.S. closing in on President Joe Biden‘s goal of injecting 100 million coronavirus vaccinations weeks ahead of his target date, the White House said the nation is now in position to help supply neighbors Canada and Mexico with millions of shots.
The Biden administration on Thursday revealed the outlines of a plan to “loan” a limited number of vaccines to Canada and Mexico as the president announced the U.S. is on the cusp of meeting his 100-day injection goal “way ahead of schedule.”
That didn’t sit well with one Republican congressman, who said the U.S. has a long way to go to take care of its own citizens before it sends help to others.
“It is absolutely unconscionable that the Biden Administration is willing to play games with the lives of Americans by sending doses to Mexico and Canada, while only 16% of adult Americans are vaccinated,” said Rep. Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey in a statement.
“These vaccines have been bought and paid for thanks to the American taxpayer; they deserve to receive their vaccines first before doses are shipped to foreign countries,” he added. “I urge President Biden to reconsider this decision and focus first on immunizing the people within our borders who desperately need the protection these vaccines offer. America needs it.”
Biden said the U.S. is on pace to have enough of the three currently authorized vaccines to cover the entire adult population just 10 weeks from now.
Ahead of Biden’s remarks, the White House said it was finalizing plans to send a combined 4 million doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to Mexico and Canada in its first export of shots. Press secretary Jen Psaki said the details of the “loan” were still being worked out, but 2.5 million doses would go to Mexico and 1.5 million would be sent to Canada.
“Our first priority remains vaccinating the U.S. population,” Psaki said.
But she added that “ensuring our neighbors can contain the virus is a mission critical step, is mission critical to ending the pandemic.”
The AstraZeneca vaccine has not yet been authorized for use in the U.S. but has been by the World Health Organization. Tens of millions of doses have been stockpiled in the U.S., waiting for emergency use authorization, and that has sparked an international outcry that lifesaving vaccine is being withheld when it could be used elsewhere. The White House said just 7 million of the AstraZeneca doses are ready for shipment.
The initial run of doses manufactured in the U.S. are owned by the federal government under the terms of agreements reached with drugmakers, and the Biden administration has faced calls from allies across the globe to release the AstraZeneca shots for immediate use. Biden has also fielded direct requests from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to buy vaccines produced in the United States.
Global public health advocates say wealthy nations like the U.S. need to do far more to help stem the spread of the pandemic. The World Health Organization on Thursday issued a report that fewer than 7 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in Africa thus far. That’s the equivalent of what the U.S. administers in a matter of days.
Biden did move to have the U.S. contribute financially to the United Nations- and World Health Organization-backed COVAX alliance, which will share vaccine with more than 90 lower- and middle-income nations, but the U.S. has yet to commit to sharing any doses.
The U.S. is injecting an average of about 2.2 million doses each day — and the pace is likely to dramatically rise later this month in conjunction with an expected surge in supply of the vaccines.

Typical Liberal Trash, Breaks the Law without Penalty
A Michigan judge ruled last week Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson (D) broke state law when she unilaterally issued rules related to absentee balloting, legitimizing a key claim made by the Trump campaign in its legal challenges to the 2020 election.
Benson issued several unilateral orders during the 2020 election including sending absentee ballot applications to all registered voters. She also issued “guidance” on how to evaluate absentee ballots, a move Michigan Court of Claims Chief Judge Christopher Murray held violated the state’s Administrative Procedures Act.
In the guidance, Benson said “slight similarities” in signatures on absentee ballots should lead a counter to decide “in favor of finding that the voter’s signature was valid.”
Murray ruled Benson violated the law “because the guidance issued by the Secretary of State on October 6, 2020, with respect to signature matching standards was issued in violation of the Administrative Procedures Act (APA).”
“I’m glad the court sees Secretary of State Benson’s attempts at lawmaking for what they are — clear violations of her authority,” Michigan state Rep. Matt Hall (R) said in a statement.
“If she wants to make changes like these, she needs to work with the Legislature or properly promulgate them through the laws we have on the books — in this case the Administrative Procedures Act,” he continued.
Murray’s ruling came after Allegan County Clerk Bob Genetski sued Benson and state Director of Elections Jonathan Brater over Benson’s order which Hall described as a “mandatory directive requiring local election officials to apply a presumption of validity to all signatures on absent voter ballots.”
According to the suit, Genetski argued “the presumption contained in the guidance issued by defendant Benson will allow invalid votes to be counted,” but Genetski did not allege “that this guidance caused him to accept a signature that he believed was invalid.”
The court’s opinion concluded:
…nowhere in this state’s election law has the Legislature indicated that signatures are to be presumed valid, nor did the Legislature require that signatures are to be accepted so long as there are any redeeming qualities in the application or return envelope as compared with the signature on file. Policy determinations like the one at issue — which places the thumb on the scale in favor of a signature’s validity — should be made pursuant to properly promulgated rules under the APA or by the Legislature.
Like other progressive secretaries of state, Benson put an aggressive emphasis on voting by absentee ballot in the name of safety amid the Chinese coronavirus pandemic.
Over 3.1 million Michigan voters cast an absentee ballot out of a possible 7.7 million voters, WWMT News reported.
In May 2020, Benson used $4.5 million in funds from the CARES Act — the original coronavirus stimulus — to send absentee ballot applications to all voters, according to Breitbart News. How the "F" do you get away with using Covid-19 dollars for election fraud? Forgot, liberal trash.
“By mailing applications, we have ensured that no Michigander has to choose between their health and their right to vote,” Benson said according to NBC 25.
“Voting by mail is easy, convenient, safe, and secure, and every voter in Michigan has the right to do it,” she continued.
Hall noted, “The Legislature is an equal branch of government charged with crafting laws. This is not the role of the Secretary of State, and there is a clear process that must be respected.”
Signature validation rules created without the approval of a legislature was one of the issues the Trump campaign and Republicans claimed was done illegally in the 2020 election.
Trump’s campaign and Republicans argued in cases nationwide that Article II of the Constitution requires state legislatures to make the rules governing presidential elections, and state election officials and courts lack the authority to change those rules.
Murray’s ruling undercuts the Democrat narrative that Republican legal challenges to 2020 election procedures were without merit and had therefore all been rejected by the courts. The original suit was filed October 6, 2020 — prior to the presidential election — but was not decided until March 9, 2021.
The case is Genetski v. Benson, No. 20-216-MM in the Court of Claims for the State of Michigan.

On Sunday’s airing of “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi outrageously blamed former President Trump for the exploding border crisis, claiming that President Biden had inherited a “broken system.”
“This is a humanitarian challenge to all of us,” she declared. “What the administration has inherited is a broken system at the border and they are working to correct that.”
On Saturday, Biden’s Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced an all-out effort by the government and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to house unaccompanied illegal immigrant children as their numbers skyrocket on the border. The situation seems to be spiraling out of control and now Democrats are trying to point fingers at Trump to deflect from Biden’s handling of the emergency.
Pelosi stated that there are approximately 600 to 700 additional children who are approaching the border. She stated that this is why Biden issued a directive to send FEMA to handle the transfer of the children from border care facilities to safe homes.
“I’m so pleased that the president, as a temporary measure, has sent FEMA (Yep, she takes OUR money is very happy doing so) to the border in order to help facilitate the children going from one — the 72-hour issue into where they are cared for as they are transferred into family homes or homes that are safe for them to be,” Pelosi stated.
“So this, again, is a transition for what was wrong before to what is right,” she proclaimed.
Pelosi gushed over the U.S. Refugee Resettlement Program calling it the world’s gold standard. Then she referenced Trump’s alleged “cruel” approach towards illegal immigrants.
Since Trump has left office and Biden has reversed most of his immigration policies, including wall construction, illegal immigration has exploded and detention facilities are now overflowing. The Daily Mail is reporting that those facilities are now over capacity by nearly 700 percent.
Pelosi was very careful in her wording and referred to the crisis on the border as a “challenge.”
She even invoked climate change (she could help by not emitting so much hot air) as a justification in her statement. “Some come from families whose livelihoods have been destroyed by climate change,” Pelosi posited. (Blame
“These people were leaving because of the drought,” she claimed. “They couldn’t farm and they were seeking other ways to survive.”
The number of unaccompanied minors crossing the border has reportedly tripled over the last few weeks. It’s being reported that in February alone, there were more than 100,000 illegal alien encounters on the border. More than 29,000 unaccompanied children crossed the border in Fiscal Year 2021 through February.
Former President Trump slammed Biden and his handling of the border crisis, stating that the country is being “destroyed” by the influx of illegal aliens over the southern U.S. border. Trump said on Tuesday that the border during his administration was “in great shape” and was “stronger, safer and more secure than ever before.” He also claimed that the border wall “would have easily” been finished if it weren’t for the Democrats getting in the way.
“We ended Catch-and-Release, shut down asylum fraud and crippled the vicious smugglers, drug dealers and human traffickers,” Trump said in a statement released last week. “The Wall, despite horrendous Democratic delays, would have easily been finished by now, and is working magnificently.”
Trump added: “Our country is being destroyed at the Southern border, a terrible thing to see!”
Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) placed the blame for the border crisis squarely on Biden. He said the president’s policies are inviting illegal immigrants to come here by the droves braving the dangerous and often deadly trek across the southern border. (To be fair, Biden has no idea what his policy is unless told.)
“Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace asked Cassidy whether Biden is responsible for the drastic jump in illegal immigrants and Cassidy said, “Empirically it is entirely. You can’t help but notice that the administration changes and there is a surge.”
“And so when people think they can get in,” Cassidy claimed, “they begin sending their unaccompanied child on a train ride across Mexico where she may be kidnapped and trafficked, on the hope that they’re going to be waved through at the border,” Cassidy stated.
He indicated that the government and FEMA believe the crisis will get worse: “They’re sending FEMA for reinforcements — not for today, not for tomorrow, but for three weeks from now,” Cassidy said.
